Founded 2024 in Prague, built for the whole EU

Kontevia: bookkeeping that works from a chat message

We build the accounting platform that a small business in any of the 27 EU countries can use without learning accounting software. Send the document, and the rest follows the rules of your country.

Our mission

Free small businesses from retyping documents. Across the European Union there are more than 25 million businesses with fewer than ten people. Most of them still collect receipts in a box, retype invoices into spreadsheets and e-mail everything to an accountant at the end of the month.

Kontevia replaces that routine. A photo of a receipt sent by WhatsApp, an invoice forwarded by e-mail or a file uploaded in the dashboard is read, categorised and booked under the VAT rules of the country the business is registered in. The VAT summary is ready before the deadline, invoices go out with the right format, and the accountant receives an export instead of a pile of paper.

Our starting point is deliberately narrow: one inbox for documents, one set of country rules per member state, and exports to the systems accountants already use. We add functions only when the core works reliably in every country we support.

What we stand for

Speed over perfection

A receipt booked in thirty seconds from a phone beats a perfect accounting system that gets opened once a month.

Built for small businesses

Sole traders, freelancers, tradespeople, cafes and online shops. We do not pretend to be an enterprise ERP, and we do not price like one.

Data stays in the EU

Documents and personal data are stored on servers in the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest, and never sold or used to train models.

Country rules from data, not from guesswork

Rates, thresholds, e-invoicing formats and deadlines for all 27 member states live in one reviewed jurisdiction database that drives both the product and this website.

Team

A small team based in Prague and Brno, working remotely across the EU. The company was founded by Ondrej Knedla and Lukas Tobolak. We work with accountants and tax advisers in the countries we cover to check the content and the rules the product applies.

What we publish

We write about VAT, e-invoicing, bookkeeping and running a small business in the EU. Every article names its sources, and we update articles when the rules change.

Where Kontevia comes from

Kontevia grows out of our sister product DokladBot, which serves the Czech market. In its Czech pilot (April to August 2026) DokladBot processed 2,455 documents for sole traders and accounting practices. Kontevia takes the same engine and applies it to the rules of every EU member state. Kontevia itself is in early access.
